Description: The Chattooga River (technically this is Overflow Creek, but it’s classified as Section I of the Chattooga by the Forest Service) is a mountain river and can be very cold, so be sure to go during the heat of summer or at least take some neoprene socks to keep your feet warm. This section has multiple class 1 and 2 rapids, which are great for a fun river tubing experience. Make sure to check the gauge before you go, because the rapids intensify as the water rises. Be careful and stay safe!
Notes:
- Everyone must register at the access point.
- No boating / floating is allowed upstream of the Highway 28 bridge. (When floating this section, you’ll notice when you reach the Chattooga. Stay with the flow by turning right and you’ll be within the guidelines.)
- No air mattresses allowed.
- Everyone above Earl’s Ford (this section) must have a lifesaving device available.
- Inner tubes are not allowed below Earl’s Ford.
Length: 5 miles / Approximately 5 hrs @ 1.5 ft
